Happy Dude

Happy Dude (formerly known as  the Black-White Game) is a color-changing puzzle platformer for PC/Mac/Linux. You play as a little box-shaped character named Happy Dude and your color determines how you interact with your environment.
When white, Happy Dude will collide with another white object, but he will pass in front of a black one. In a similar way, when black, Happy Dude will pass in front of a white object, but will be obstructed by a black one. Using this logic, the player must strategically invert Happy Dude's color from black to white (and vice versa) to solve challenging puzzles.

  1. Hi there,

I found your site after playing your game Happy Runner through StencylForge. This game looks adorable and is fun to play. :) But I was wondering if you had it hosted anywhere else? As it is very laggy when embedded into the blog which made playing much of it very difficult. :(

It's awesome work though. Please keep it up. :)

  2. Hello Liz, thank you for your comment. Actually, I think you are the first person to leave a comment on my website, so that is really cool! I'm sorry about the lag. I will try to fix that. For the meantime you can try playing the game at it's original location:

Let me know if it works better. I will add a link to the page as well. Thanks for the encouraging words. I've been working hard on new concepts for the game. I hope to have another demo to show soon.

  3. Hi James,

Thank you it is running a little better when not running it through the embedded player. There is still some lag, but I think that maybe more to do with large Flash files and Chrome (my regular browser) it works perfectly through the original link when using IE9. I gotta day you have a real knack for puzzle design in this and 'Happy Runner'. :)

I look forward to the next demo you post. ;) I am making a game using Stencyl for University at the moment, and code is not my strong point, so I know how much perseverance it takes to get something going and keep it going. And from my basic understanding of Stencyl what you have done here is quite impressive. :)

    Kind regards,
    Liz

    4. Thanks for the enthusiasm, guys! Working hard on the game every day. The Kickstarter should launch the first week of April. One of the Kickstarter rewards will be an alpha of the game. So if you pledge for that reward you will be able to start playing an unfinished version of the game right away in May 2014, before the game is officially completed

    1. I'll do my best to make it challenging and fair. I've been playing other indie puzzle platformer games, to see what I'm up against. The competition is steep. Games like Braid have some ingenious puzzles. Thanks for the support!

  8. Make it so! Make it so! Make it so! AND MAKE THE GAME! Good marketing technique too. Jergoinplazes. I played the proof of concept game, and it's a good start.

  9. Loved the game so far. Keep it up. Make it so! make it so ! Make it so! was awesome.

  10. Is there only one level so far? I also found this on the Star Trek Christmas thing! I love games like this and would love it if it had over 100 levels! :D

    1. I'm still not sure how many levels yet, but my goal is to have at least four hours of gameplay for experienced gamers. It might take longer to beat the game for people who are relatively new to gaming.

  12. Interesting. . . the concept is awesome, and the potential story implication large. I'm hoping you come up with something at least as impressive as Eversion.

    1. I'm hoping the story is fun. So far I've got two wizards, a Princess Rainbow and a dragon ...
Never heard of Eversion, should I check it out?

  14. This looks really cool. I'm actually really excited to see this project near completion. Are you going to send this through Steam Greenlight? Either way, I definitely want to play this. The concept is really simple, yet in-game, could be very strategic and complicated, which is something I don't see very often anymore. Hope development goes well, and I hope to see some interesting levels (or puzzles). :)

  17. What program did you use for graphics? I am curious because I am making pixel game of my own, and Photoshop seems to be more trouble than it's worth.

    1. I really recommend Paint.NET It's free, pretty easy to use, and has a lot of most essential functions found in Photoshop. Download link here: http://www.getpaint.net/
The single best thing about it is that you can draw in layers.
